Rainy-Season Driving Awareness in Guwahati

Prepare for rain by checking visibility, planning a cautious journey and recognising when standing water or poor conditions require you to stop and reassess.

Rain changes what a driver can see and how a vehicle responds. In Guwahati, a lesson or journey may need to be delayed or adjusted when visibility and road conditions deteriorate. The aim is to make an early, calm decision rather than continue merely because the route is familiar.

Check the vehicle before the journey

Check that wipers, washers, lights and window demisting work. Tyre condition and pressure should follow the vehicle manufacturer's guidance; ask a qualified person to assess defects. Clean glass and mirrors help, but they do not compensate for weather that makes it difficult to see the road.

Allow extra time and check current local travel information. Learners should ask the school whether a planned practical session is still suitable and agree any change of meeting point before setting out.

Give yourself more time to respond

Reduce speed to suit visibility and grip, leave additional space and make steering, braking and acceleration smooth. Watch for pedestrians trying to cross, two-wheelers avoiding surface defects and vehicles slowing unexpectedly. A speed that felt comfortable in dry conditions may no longer be appropriate.

Keep enough attention on the road ahead to notice developing problems before they demand a sudden response. Avoid distractions and do not try to recover lost journey time after a delay.

Treat standing water as an unknown hazard

Water can conceal holes, an edge or a damaged surface. Do not assume that following a larger vehicle proves the route is safe for your car. Avoid entering floodwater or an uncertain waterlogged section; use a safe alternative or wait for reliable guidance. If you are already in difficulty, prioritise personal safety and seek appropriate assistance.

Know when to pause

If you cannot see or control the vehicle comfortably, identify a lawful, safe place to stop away from moving traffic where possible. An instructor may shorten, reschedule or replace a road session with a discussion of hazards. This is a sensible training decision.

During a supervised lesson, discuss demisting, use of lights, following space and route choice for the actual vehicle and conditions. The road-safety section explains the wider observation habits that support these decisions.
